Classes with Carla Gauthier
Watercolor, Drawing

Painting, for me, is an opportunity to make sense of an increasingly visual world. I get to enjoy the image making process, choosing the contrast, color and light that suit the subject at hand and the story being told. It is a pursuit which has its challenges and successes, but it is about the process, the small gains made along the way.

Intermediate/Advanced Watercolor Class

Pack up your supplies and your inspiration and take your work to a new level. This class will focus less on basic technique and more on nurturing your unique painting voice. While working on your own personal subject matter, we will focus on ideas like creating a variety of edges, fresh compositions, bold color combinations and working in a series. Classes will run from 9:30 – 12:30 and will include time for daily group critiques.

Drawing for Beginners (Adults)

Drawing is the cornerstone for so many media and a necessary foundation. Learn basic techniques to heighten your observation skills, help you draw what you see, and move past hurdles that stand in the way of your artistic vision. This is a skill that can be learned by anyone, and we will start with basic still life items, move into landscape work, and sketching skills during the six week class. Supply list is minimal, and will be provided to you upon registration.

Wednesdays, 1:00pm–3:00pm
4 week session  $100

Drawing Portraits (High School Students, Adults)

Portraits are difficult – not only do you have to draw the facial features in proportion to the head with all their texture and detail, but you also should capture the model’s personality and energy! Breaking it down into simple steps makes this possible. We will cover basic feature and portrait drawing; touch on what makes your portrait unique, work on textures, contrast and edges to finish artwork you can be proud of. Students can work in the media of their choice – charcoal, pencil, colored pencil/Prismacolor from a photograph of their own.

Wednesdays, 3:30pm–5:30pm
4 week session   $100
