Hi Bay Area friends! Some of you may remember that in a previous blog post we shared our interview about how Keels and Wheels Concours D’Elegance chairman and co-founder, Bob Fuller, came to choose the charity, Boys and Girls Harbor in La Porte, Texas, as the beneficiary of his exciting Concours event. If you haven’t read it yet, we invite you to click on the link to it at the bottom of this post.
After that interview was over, Bob was kind enough to offer us tickets to his magnificent Keels and Wheels event, now in its 22nd year, at the Lakewood Yacht Club in Seabrook, Texas, last weekend.
In today’s post, in addition to more pictures of the gorgeous classic cars and vintage wooden boats, we thought we’d start by sharing with you a real community need and one we feel certain many of you can help with.
When we walked onto the grounds last Sunday, two of the first people we met were Patricia Lind, Director of Major Gifts for Boys and Girls Harbor and their Director of Development & Communications, Richard Gruen. We found out that one of their biggest challenges is finding internships and funding for the children, once they turn 18. Some of them are not yet quite ready to leave the Boys and Girls Harbor home, yet they must, as the home’s funding doesn’t cover them after they are 18 years of age.
So, Bay Area friends, if any of you are interested in helping the 18 year old boys and girls with internship positions or other types of financial transition support as they enter the world as adults and prepare to leave the only stable home they’ve ever known, please get in touch with Richard or Patricia at the following numbers:
Richard Gruen, Director of Development & Communications at (713) 688-6262, Ext. 301 or Patricia Lind, Director of Major Gifts at (713) 688-6262, Ext. 300.
Now, back to images of the exquisitely beautiful cars and boats!
It was hard to choose a favorite, so we didn’t! What follows are just a few of the hundreds of pictures we took on this fun and happy afternoon!
We loved this classic, vintage wooden boat. It was so simple and beautiful and the owner, sitting next to it, was justifiably proud of all the work he had put into restoring it.
What fascinated us the most about the way the owners had restored their classic cars was how they took great pains to color coordinate every aspect of the interior. The car below was a perfect example, right down to the orange band on the steering wheel.
Patricia had a lovely moment talking with her framing customer, Bob Fuller, in his golf cart, just minutes before the winner of the new Lincoln Continental was announced. Each of us bought 100.00 worth of raffle tickets, as did many hundreds of the others in attendance – and all those proceeds also went to support the Boys and Girls Harbor.
Bob shared with us that one year, his Director of Media won the car, and promptly gave it back so that it could be re-sold again, in order to be able to give even more money to the Boys and Girls Harbor. We didn’t catch her name, but we want to applaud her generous spirit!
The Lakewood Yacht Club, named by the Robb Report as one of the Top Ten yacht clubs in the United States, provided a lovely backdrop for the cars to be shown off to their best advantage, and their owners to set up picnics under the magnificent live oaks.
It was a perfect day for coming out to support the Boys and Girls Harbor, while enjoying one of the country’s top Concours events for classic car and vintage wooden boat lovers, owners and collectors.
And now a special offer to do our part to help support Boys and Girls Harbor even further. Please help us spread the word!
For any Keels and Wheels 2017 image brought into Upper Bay Frame and Gallery between now and Saturday, June 17th (the day before Father’s Day), we will give Bob Fuller a check for 5% of all Keels & Wheels related purchases to give to Boys and Girls Harbor.
Thank you, Bay Area friends, and thank you, Bob, for all you have done for the past 22 years to support Boys and Girls Harbor, as the volunteer chairman and co-founder of Keels and Wheels Concours D’Elegance.

We hope to see many of you here over the next few weeks as we want to give Bob a BIG check!
